BVA

The Federation of Flemish Architects (BVA) used to be the coordinating body of the Flemish Architects' Associations, members of the Royal Confederation of Belgian Architects' Associations (FAB). In order to better support the local associations, its functioning has recently been thoroughly restructured. BVA became a non-profit institution and started organising events itself. It is no longer merely the coordinating body of its member associations. Attention to the quality of achitecture and the changing role of the architect in the building process now form its core focus.

The BVA is a politically neutral federation with following goals:

  1. offering architects encouragement and support in their professional activities with the aim of providing a qualitative and competitive service in a regional, national and international context;

  2. defending the interests of architects especially as they fulfill a cultural as well as social task, always aiming at the propagation of architecture, urban de-velopment and the environment, as well as defending its members' profes-sional, social and cultural interests;

  3. offering target groups a comprehensive and systematic information and docu-mentation service, in particular as to the diverse aspects of the profession;

  4. providing a networking system including existing organisations and associ-ations, with the emphasis on cooperation and/or additional initiatives;

  5. offering local federations and/or associations structural support in their dealings with target groups, by guaranteeing an integrated functioning, by creating a centralised and professional organisation and by coordinating their goals and projects.
